Anti-bribery and corruption risk mapping in global electrical equipment distribution
Anti Bribery & Corruption | read time: 2 min

Anti-bribery and corruption (ABC) risk mapping is a vital step in developing an effective compliance programme. It enables organisations to identify and prioritise corruption risks, implement proportionate mitigation measures and ensure anti-corruption procedures are relevant to their operating context. Â
To support compliance with France’s Sapin II law, which requires large French companies to implement effective anti-corruption compliance programmes, a multinational electrical equipment distribution group asked GoodCorporation to conduct corruption risk mapping across its global operations. Â
Mapping corruption risks across global operations
The client, an international electrical equipment distribution group operating in more than 20 countries, sought to develop corruption risk maps for all its subsidiaries worldwide.Â
GoodCorporation created 24 tailored risk maps for the group’s entities and subsidiaries, including operations in France, the USA, China, Australia, Germany and the group holding company. This work enabled the development of a consolidated group-level corruption risk map, providing a global view of the organisation’s exposure. Â
Our approach
Each risk map was developed through remote interviews with local entity managers, combined with a review of existing local policies and procedures. This approach ensured that each entity’s risk map reflected its specific operations, business environment and the maturity of its anti-corruption framework.Â
In total, GoodCorporation conducted 293 interviews and reviewed several thousand documents. Each local risk map was accompanied by a tailored action plan to address the priority risk scenarios identified.Â
Following completion of the local mapping, GoodCorporation consolidated the results into a group-wide corruption risk map. This provided the Group Compliance Director with a clear overview of the company’s priority corruption risks, along with a high-level action plan setting out the key structural measures to implement at group level.Â
The GoodCorporation view
At GoodCorporation, we recognise the importance of tailored risk mapping as a core element of any effective anti-bribery and corruption programme. Without a thorough and specific assessment of corruption risks, businesses cannot be confident that their anti-corruption measures are sufficient or proportionate to the risks they face.Â
Our experience shows that many organisations struggle to carry out this critical task effectively. A robust, tailored approach is essential to ensuring that risks are accurately identified and appropriately managed.Â
GoodCorporation offers comprehensive anti-bribery and corruption risk mapping services, enabling companies to drill down into the specific corruption risks that are most relevant to their business activities and geographical locations. This helps companies develop controls that are not only effective but proportionate to the nature and scale of the risks they face.
