Delivering global sexual harassment awareness training for Enhesa employees

As part of its commitment to creating safe and responsible workplaces, leading EHS and sustainability provider Enhesa wanted to ensure that its own zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment was well-understood across its global network. To achieve this objective, GoodCorporation has delivered sexual harassment training for all Enhesa staff across a three-year period.Â
Delivering training across a global workforce
As Enhesa is an international organisation with approximately 500+ employees based in three continents, Asia, America and Europe, we delivered the training in webinar format the three different time zones. Â
Year one: understanding sexual harassment
In year one, the training focused on understanding the different types of sexual harassment, recognising examples and learning about Enhesa’s zero-tolerance policy. The training also examined the company’s, reporting process to ensure it was properly understood, including how investigations are carried out and followed-up. The webinars incorporated a range of scenarios to help participants identify different examples of sexual harassment.Â
Year two: empowering active bystanders
In year two, the training built on the areas covered in year one but considered in detail what it means to be an active bystander if witnessing sexual harassment in a work setting. Possible techniques for diffusing or directly intervening in such situations were explored and the reasons why individuals might or might not feel comfortable intervening were discussed.Â
Year three: exploring grey areas
In its third year, the initiative introduced a new approach to evaluating and recognising sexual harassment. By using a colour spectrum, it aimed to identify and categorise ‘grey area’ behaviour and to explore situations where individuals may begin to slip into increasingly unacceptable conduct. This approach highlights how perceptions of what is acceptable can vary widely, often existing on a sliding scale influenced by a range of factors.Â
A sensitive and tailored approach to training
Sexual harassment training is an inherently sensitive topic, setting the right tone and content is critical to ensure that participants do not feel targeted or vulnerable during the session. To get this right, GoodCorporation works closely with clients to agree the content, format and use of language, before developing the programme.Â
It is also important to tailor the content as required to ensure the training is relevant to employees’ specific experiences, such as whether they work in an office, participate in off-site trips, or interact with different backgrounds and stakeholders. Â
In all cases the training is interactive with online polling to engage participants, asking questions about their knowledge of the subject and how they would respond to various scenarios. Participants can also ask anonymous questions through these tools, keeping them engaged throughout the session.Â
