Assessing, strengthening and embodying ethics in a medium size energy company

In 2022, GoodCorporation assisted a France-based specialist energy company with a major redevelopment of its code of ethics. The aim was to align the company’s practices with the highest standards of ethics and compliance, while embedding the principles of ethical conduct into the corporate culture.

Rigorous assessment and targeted recommendations

The project began with an in-depth assessment of the existing code of ethics, comparing it with our best practice framework and our database of comparable companies, including those in the same sector or with similar governance profiles.

This analysis identified the code’s strengths and enabled us to identify gaps and highlight the areas that needed to be strengthened to meet best practice standards/internationally recognised best practice.

Co-development across the business

Workshops were then organised with representatives from different functions within the company to gather expectations, concerns and insights into established practices and ways of working. The output from these workshops informed the drafting of the new code, ensuring its operational relevance and importantly, building ownership for the code across the different business teams.

Customised internal rollout

The following year, we supported the rollout of the code of ethics across the organisation. This included the creation of targeted communication tools designed for different levels of responsibility (executives, Human Resources representatives, operational managers) to convey key messages in a clear and engaging manner and enable internal stakeholders to take ownership and embed the content in their daily practice.

Our approach

GoodCorporation’s approach enabled the company to develop a code of ethics that reflected best practice and promoted high operational standards. By involving representatives from across the business, we were able to elicit a wider understanding of the importance of the code and facilitate its adoption and integration across the business. As a result, the code of ethics has become a valuable internal management tool helping to place ethics at the heart of managerial and operational practices.

With over twenty years of experience and a unique code of conduct database, GoodCorporation can help build a code of ethics that goes beyond mere statements of intent, creating meaningful documents that reflect a company’s ethical commitments and instil a sense of ownership. We also work closely with companies to ensure the code’s efficient deployment across the business. Visit our code of conduct development page for more information.
